The other day, when we were planning my three-day visit to [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's, I told him I planned to bring along my new one-dollar ice-cream maker. I asked him what flavor he might like to make. "I don't know; caramel?" So I went looking on the web for caramel ice cream recipes. Most were pretty involved, but I don't mind that. One that looked relatively simple and really delicious (besides being from the Perfect Scoop guy) was this recipe for salted caramel ice cream.

I made it tonight. It's easier than it looks, provided you have all the equipment handy (I especially recommend making sure you have the water-bath bowls in the sizes you'll need). And oh, dear, is it ever decadent. Next time, I'd probably skip the praline step and just have the ice cream without the stuff in it, but that's my preference in general, anyway.

Yum.

The vegan chocolate cake I made tonight is way yummy. Very cheap, very easy to make, VERY moist. I mostly don't like cake, unless it's practically moist enough to be a steamed pudding. This one's like that, and a few bites were plenty. The gang likes it, too.

Here's the recipe, gakked from Goomba38 on rec.food.cooking. I skipped the powdered sugar. )

The first batch burned, but the second one was yummy. It's an adaptation of a Bryanna Clark Grogan recipe, made with what I had on hand. Yum. Just like the ones at Peets.
