The lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] golden_c_turtle took me on a shopping expedition (she shopped, I expeditioned) today. Between the swing dancing, the trash-talking, and the rain-walking, she treated me to lunch at a very fine Berkeley restaurant called Sea Salt. The place is famous for its seafood, but I had a delightful vegan lunch -- a cup of exceptional Darjeeling; more than my fair share of good sourdough bread; a salad of frisee greens, julienned persimmon, pomegranate seeds, walnuts, and a lightly sweet vinaigrette; and two sorbets for dessert: quince and grapefruit. Oh, my.

I forgot to post about the silly dinner I made the other night. I was poking around trying to figure out what to do with the seitan I had made, and I was waffling between curry and peanut sauce, and then I saw the box of Shake-N-Bake left over from my mother's last visit. I read the box, and while it's not health food, it's vegan, so what the hell.

I cut the seitan into "cutlets", shook 'em, put them on oiled aluminum foil on a cookie sheet, and baked according to directions. I made gravy out of the soy-sauce broth the seitan was cooked in, some garlic powder/salt/pepper, and some miso, thickened with a flour slurry. Noodles on the side. Total trashy dinner, reminiscent of my childhood, and [livejournal.com profile] sogwife said if she hadn't known it was seitan, it would have taken her a couple of bites to figure it out.

Silly dinner.

Brunch today: Seitan hash (potatoes, onions, bell peppers, seitan chunks, fried in a little oil)

Dinner today: Baked potatoes with sauteed onions and the leftover gravy from "pork chop" night

Tomorrow: Chickpea gravy at [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's. We'll probably have it over mashed potatoes, and then I'll probably be ready to eat something other than potatoes for a change.
