I usually just throw together barbecue sauce, and it's different every time, but I've decided to try to make a recipe that I like all the time. Today's attempt is pretty good, but may be smokier than I like, at least before it cooks on the meat. I'll see how it turns out, and then I'll tweak it for next time.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, minced
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup apple juice
1/4 cup HP sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons molasses
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons dry mustard powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon granulated garlic
1 teaspoon Sriracha chili sauce

Instructions

Cook onion in olive oil until tender. Mix in remaining ingredients.
Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 30 minutes, stirring
occasionally.
