When you have a boyfiend (that's no typo) as good as mine, sometimes you get grilled cheese sammiches to make you feel better. He used homemade white bread and sharp cheddar.
(I made the soup; recipe below the cut, along with more pictures.)

Tomato Soup
1-2 teaspoons oil
1/2 onion, chopped
pinch of salt
1 clove garlic, chopped
1 small rib celery, chopped
1 large tomato, chopped
1 15-ounce can tomato sauce (along with 1 can of water or stock)
1 bay leaf
pinch fines herbs
Sautee onion in oil and salt until onion starts turning translucent. Add garlic and celery and sautee a few minutes more. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or so. Remove and discard bay leaf. Blend soup until smooth. Serve hot.
